The History of Stormin Loud

The most anticipated event of the year

The three programming boards of St. John’s University’s Student Government, Inc. – Haraya: The Pan-African Students’ Coalition, the Resident Student Association, and the Student Programming Board – introduced “Stormin’ Loud” in the spring of 2021 as a response to the pandemic, and out of a desire to find ways to engage their campus community within it. The event was first introduced as a virtual concert done in collaboration with Looper – an interactive online platform – to showcase performances featuring student artists and Chicago rapper, Smino.

On April 29, 2022, Stormin Loud was reintroduced to the St. John’s community as an outdoor festival. The festival featured a 75-foot Ferris Wheel, a vendor's market and popular food trucks, as well as performances by St. John’s students, organizations, local acts and New York artists.  Stormin Loud returned in 2023 and true to the name, students resisted an actual storm. On April 28, 2023 over 3,000 Johnnies checked into Stormin Loud which featured three brand activations, 25 vendors, an art installation, student performances and live entertainment.  As a result of the event’s success, Stormin Loud is now the most anticipated event of the year. We are excited to welcome our Johnnies back for another year.
